Sensor on oil reservoir

I have a small oil leak from the sensor on the left side of the oil reservoir. I went to an auto parts store and they think it is a pressure sensor, I think it is a temperature sensor. In any event I can't purchase the right part unless I can identify the little bugger. I have a Chiltons and I cannot find the sensor in its pages. The wire looks as if its bare and the insulation has been pulled from the sensor, but still attached.

An oil pressure sensor has a screw on wire connector, the one that I have is hard-wired.

See if that's what you need
Never heard the oil pan called the oil reservoir, but that is exactly what it is.

I've searched the same thing on the net and I cant find one for an 88 2.9. And the one thats on my truck is loose as a long neck goose.

I am pretty sure Ford used the same part for just about everything through the 90's. Look for a oil level sensor for a Ford Mustang 5.0.

I went down to the local auto store, CarQuest, and picked a new sensor up and installed it when I changed oil. Now the wire is stable and it doesn't leak. I was surprised they actually had a sensor in stock. I rarely have to look for parts for the 2.9, my CarQuest store usually has it. It may be that there are a bunch of Rangers around here and they stock accordingly. In farm country the ranger is a popular little truck for farmers to get around in.

Mine kept leaking and I just did away with it, there useless anyway. Welded the hole up and it's been fine for years now.
