One of the major problems was the suppliers. Ford and Chrysler source many parts from the same places as GM. Without the GM business those suppliers would fail, leaving Ford and Chrysler with some serious downtime while they found new suppliers, and those suppliers tooled up. Not to mention the job loss. It had to be done, but it still sucks.

Will they officially change the name to Government Motors? Only time will tell.

60% of GM will be owned by U.S. tax payers. In Obama's speech today I heard him say that he was not interested in running GM and that a private board would run it.

Let's see......it was just on the 5 pm news......the guvment has spent $52,o0o,o0o,0o0 to save 50,000 jobs at the GM factories.......calucator......that's about a million per employee, excluding CEO bonuses of course (another 50,000,000)......we could have let them fold up, put all the GM employees on welfare and still have money left over to give unemployment benefits to all the supplier employees who got laid off....but....alas....I over-simplify

No. You don't over simplify. You just took a common sense approach. Government has to do something complicated or else we would realize that the citizens could run the country without the multiple layers of elected representatives.

HUH!........the" founding "Fathers" I was recently bragging on, said practically the same thing!
See, reading those cliff notes the founding fathers wrote can get pretty interesting..........Kinda reminds me of what another old Vet told me....."It's the governments job to keep the people in fear----it makes them easier to lead"

Having said that, I must bail myself out with this fact.....it's better than any other earthly government that I've seen!:icon_surprised:

Like Hitler said- "How fortunate for governments when the people do not think."

And while I do think America still has a pretty good government, despite itself, I think there are a couple of other countries that are set to pass us up.

Costa Rica -
Completely surrounded by ass-backward little countries rife with coups and political/civil unrest, they managed to make a pretty damn good little country with a fairly strong, growing economy.

Luxembourg -
Tiny little country (999 square miles), with a population of half a million. Still produces a GDP/capita of US$82,306. Extremely strong economy with a remarkable record of stability. Interesting, considering that the US keeps preaching that nothing but pure Democracy can work, and we've managed to make a national pastime of economic recession.

Then take America -
Started off and quickly rose to a strong world power. Repeatedly punishes and murders its own citizens for doing the same thing we originally did to England. Has managed to piss off everyone and makes this strange attempt to exercise a religious form of government while constantly violating every one of that religions sensibilities.

I guess South Park said it best - "The strength of America comes from it's ability to say one thing and do another."
