And now, I took the froze up compressor off and found that there was no oil in it at all. Not even one drop. Where did it go? I'll call the two garages tomorrow and ask them what they think.

I wonder if the evaporator, could have a leak. Since I can't see it, maybe everything leaked out inside that enclosure, oil and all.

how was the comp running without refrigerant? was the cycle switch bypassed? Oil should be in the accumulator and maybe the condenser.

Freon was put in but it went away and then the compressor stopped running, I guess. Are you saying that the oil is now in the accumulator and condenser? No, nothing was bypassed.

Guessing will get you no where! Was the system dead (empty) prior to replacing the compressor? If not your leak is likely at one of the connections. Get a can of refrigerant and put some in the system and then soap test the connections. It must be a large leak to go dead that fast. Fill the bottom of a spray bottle with dish soap and fill with water. Its been my experience a low pressure soap test will locate any leak. All those dyes and leak sealers will only are a waste of money and just degrade the cooling capacity of any system.

Yes, the system was completely empty. How can I pressurize the system to leak for leaks? Can I just put high pressure air into the system at one of the swayder(sp) valves?

I've put the 2nd new compressor on. The compressor arrive and on a label indicated that there was 6.75 oz of oil in it. I drained the compressor and found only 5 oz.. I refilled the compressor with 6 oz of pag oil with die. I'm taking it tomorrow to the garage.

What is this round 3 now? Good luck hope you find the leak! Double check the factory recommendation on the oil charge somewhere I think I read 10 or 12 oz but you need to make sure. Air conditioning compressors don't have an oil pan like engines, most of the oil moves throughout the system

ok I have ac. the garage found that there were several leaks including a couple of missing :O" rings. H
ow can that be? So this compressor is working and the system is working. The first compressor must have been bad. Rockauto hasn't honored their warranty yet but we'll see. AC cost me around $430.00, parts and labor and my labor. It's more than I expected to pay but I enjoyed the project and I learned something. Thanks Denise and others for your help.
