First off, I am a ranger guy. I have been on this forum for a while working on my trucks. My daughters boyfriend has a 95 ford explorer. He is not a person that should ever touch a wrench. His hood release cable is jacked. I went to pick and pull and pulled the cable assembly from another explorer in the yard. I pulled it almost a year ago so he could check his oil,:icon_confused: well you are correct in assuming that he has not checked his oil and or added any. My daughter is explaining a frayed cable that he thinks he can no longer use to open the hood. That is a no brainer to cut some of the remaining cable housing and pull the cable and open the hood. My question is about replacing the old cable with the working cable. Do I need to replace the entire assembly, or can I just pull the good cable thru the existing housing. I really find it funny that all these kids are in college but can't check their oil or air up a tire.
