Ranger, manufactured in June 1987, 2.9L. It has it's original cylinder heads, from what I can tell. Just passed through 300,000 miles.

I have either blown a head gasket or a cracked head. One thing I'm sure of, coolant is entering the cylinder(s). Has anyone used the castings from Clearwater Cylinder Heads, http://www.cylinder-heads.com/details.cfm?itemid=1864 ? Are they like the revised head casting from Ford? Original North American casting? Euro casting? In case I need to replace the heads. I can't budget the World Products heads. What is my best option for a bolt on replacement?

Bar's Leaks has gotten me home, twice. Truck is now parked.

So them heads have got you 300,000 miles and 24 years.. And you think there are BETTER heads out there? First thing to do is take them off and SEE what happened. If it is a block or head gasket that needs replacing then any premature worries about the heads were in vain.

Once it is apart then see what you really need to do.

I would take it apart and then if you find a crack go for those heads. However, I noticed that it has two casing numbers (Casting No: 86, 89TM) You want the 89TM since these are the revised castings that Ford manufactured from 89-92.

When ordering, I would specify the 89TM casing number and make sure to double check that when they arrive.

Thanks guys. I plan to disassemble, clean and magnaflux the heads I've got. I have no intention of replacing them if they can be reconditioned. I'm just being proactive toward my options.

I'll inquire about the 89TM castings, should it come down to it.
