I was just curious although the front may not be long enough...
I'd love to see pics of an inline 6 in a Ranger regardless of brand.

Which Inline? :D

I've tried stuffing a Jeep I6 that I had in mine, didn't have the skills at the time to carry through with it though. If the oil pump wasn't so in the way it would have fit disturbingly well.

300 I6's have been done (in a BII at least)

I've seen pictures of a Cummins 6BT in a Ranger.

There's a couple who've suggested some of the Smaller sixes that ford offered, I have a Ford 250 I6 slated for DEATHTRAP when the v8 eventually calls it quits.

Alot of them, inevitably have to chop out a tad of the firewall.

I've always like the thought of a straight 6 in a ranger. I think it would be great. As for what size I'm not sure.

what mods had to be done to fit the 6BT and the 300 I6 in, besides firewall massaging?
the 300 I6 I saw went the firewall route. The 6BT Cummins actually had some body work done to lengthen the fenders and hood.

I don't actually know what mods they did. They're floating around here on the site somewhere.

There are certain engines from Ford, Chevy and Dodge that I con't care for but I never met an inline six I didn't like.
Oddly, most of the engines I don't like are V6's
I was just curious if anyone dropped an inline six in their Ranger but I can see how block length can be a problem.

The fun begins where the pavement ends
I've always thought the running gear from a Cherokee would be awesome under a Ranger. Those 4 Litre straight sixes are tough motors. Of course a Viper V10 wouldbe shorter:D

Straight engine under the hood of a Ranger is less common then a 4.0. I'm told straight engines of the same size of that of a v-6 have more torque.

What about one of those 5 cylinder engines out of the Chevy Colorado....I'm told they have over 200 hp.

The Ford 4.0 has better low end torque than the jeep 4.0...

It would be more torque then what my 2.8 is putting out. So that would be a nice up grade. Plus I would drop in a carbed inline 6 so that I dont have to mess with all the wiring. I dont need alot of low end torque, I dont pull stuff with my truck.

IMO an inline 6 would look better and I would take it over a 4.0 but not by much. But I would drop a Ford inline 6 in my truck if I was doing such a swap.

if your going thought all that work and not gaining much. why not put a v8 in and make a ton of hp and tq for less work. i just dont see the point of a swapping in a v6 for straight 6 when you could swap in a v8 for less work

Less work and more power. You don't have to touch the firewall to drop in a 351W let alone a 302.
