I'm a noob to Rangers but not to engine/chassis swaps.
I just bought a 99 std cab 2wd Ranger with 2.5 man trans and am considering a swap. I have 2 engines I could use. originally I was going to use a 3.0L engine from a 91 SHO, but I'm leaning more toward a 4.6L from a Mark Viii.
I've identified most of the problem areas (there's always the ones you did'nt think of) and I'd like to know how those who've done it dealt with these issues.
The biggest one is the exhaust on the left side and the steering shaft. the stock M8 manifold ain't gonna happen but has anyone used a left manifold from a 2wd Lincoln Navigator? it looks fairly compact and I hate making headers. also how about the oil filter adapter? Is it in the way? Again, Nav unit repositions it behind the motor mount but also changes the mount somewhat.
Speaking of motor mounts, what works best?
Also it appears I'll have to do major surgery on the heater box and lose the A/C but i'm more concerned with clearance around the brake booster.
How about the oil pan???? Then there is PATS. I'm not sure but I think the M8 has it and not sure where it's hiding (a cabover I built had it in the cluster so I had to use the donor trucks gauges in the old trucks housing- PITA).
Any help from you guy's that have done it is appreciated. thanks.
