(1983-1997 Ford Ranger Manual Locking Hubs)

1983-1997 Ford Ranger 4×4

The 1983-1997 Ford Ranger 4×4 came with (2) different axle assemblies:

  • Dana 28 TTB (23-spline) = 1983 to 1990 (1990 models built November 1989 & earlier, paired with a B.W.1350 transfer case)
  • Dana 35 TTB (27-spline) = 1990-1/2 to 1997 (1990 models built after November 1989, paired with a B.W.1354 transfer case)

These axles came with either auto locking hubs or manual locking hubs. The manual hubs are no longer available through Ford, but the aftermarket is still offering them. The automatic locking hubs are no longer in production and are hard to find. If you’re lucky, you might find a NOS set of them on ebay.

Mile Marker Manual Hubs:

Mile Marker would be my third choice if you couldn’t find any Warn or AVM manual hubs. Mile Marker offers the following part numbers:

  • Mile Marker 427 – Dana 28 Manual Locking Hubs

Rugged Ridge Manual Hubs:

Rugged Ridge has been around since 2005, and they are a division of Omix. Omix has been making Jeep reproduction parts since 1992. Oddly, I can find companies that sell the Rugged Ridge manual hubs for the Ford Ranger, but Rugged Ridge doesn’t list them on their website. The part numbers for their manual hubs are:

  • 15001.65 – Dana 35 Manual Locking Hubs

Dorman Manual Locking Hubs:

Dorman has been selling car parts since 1918. If you’ve ever been to a parts store, you’ve seen their products. I was not aware until I started researching hubs for this page that Dorman now sells manual locking hubs and spindle nuts and washers for the Ford Ranger. Here are their part numbers:

  • 600-214 – Dana 35 Manual Locking Hubs
  • 305305.1 – Dana 35 Spindle Nut Kit (also uses number 05305)
  • 618-040 – Dana 35 Spindle Washer (I.D. 1-5/8 In. O.D. 2-3/16 In. Thickness 1/8)

TRQ Manual Locking Hubs:

TRQ Auto Parts is a parts supplier based out of Pepperell, Massachusetts that offers “highest quality, direct-fit aftermarket parts at affordable prices.” They seem to have been in business a while. I was looking for reviews online and was seeing reviews like this; “I find that TRQ/1A are relatively acceptable in quality based on price. Unfortunately, the parts themselves do not last as long, maybe 1/2 the life of OEM parts. You do get what you pay for”. I’m not recommending them; I’m just letting people know what’s out there. The part numbers for their hubs are:

  • BHA41990 – Dana 28 Manual Locking Hubs
  • BHA41991 – Dana 35 Manual Locking Hubs

Amazon & Ebay Manual Locking Hubs:

You will find manual locking hubs for your Ford Ranger on Amazon with a variety of different names. I would avoid any that aren’t a well-known brand name.

2001-2011 Ford Ranger 4×4

In 2001 Ford switched the Ranger from the PVH (Pulse Vacuum Hubs) to a live axle setup. You can change out the front CV axle shafts and unit bearings to those from a 1998-2000 Ford Ranger 4×4 which will then allow you to swap in the locking hubs above (1998-2000 Ford Ranger 4×4).
