The 77 i believe is the same as the 78-79 when it comes to half ton... so it should be high pinion.
When it comes to 3/4 ton, 78/79 is the way to go as the 77's are low pinion.
Six inches off the passenger side. There's a great write up about it in the tech library.

Bigger hubs and a bigger axle housing, everything else is the same. No real strength difference I believe.
Personally I would go for the 1/2 ton for coil spring set-up and the better clearance of the 9"
I do like the 3/4 set up because I won't have to get new wheels or rear axles when I...
Alright, since I am acquiring a new daily driver, I am now a lil less concerned about my rangers future drive ability comforts...
Okay so I have a toyota ifs steering gear that I'll be using and I have power steering on my ranger. The toy gear is set up for power assist, but can I run it...

If you don't think you're gonna finish the older 88 for another two years (which is easier to work on/swap), how long do you think it will take on the 05?

She'll be donating her rear axle and 5.8 to the ranger cause :D
I was so excited that I almost started a build thread on the ranger, but I figured I'd better wait till I got some progress on the ranger...
Anyone need...
Cuz this punk hasn't started one yet, I'll just do it for him.
Hopefully he actually sees it.
:thefinger:
This will give him a place to ask all his random questions too.
I like this build so maybe someone else will too, it's a slow one and I stole all the pics off of his myspace...
