i have recently experienced some power loss in my 89 bronco II. i seem to lose power on low rpm hi torque situations suchas when the torque converter locks up. this phenominan is completely void when the rps go over 2000. is seems like it is burbling like under water or something. i assure you it is not actually under water though. any ideas would be helpfull.

i am going to make sure the distributor cap is dry underneath and i am going to change the spark plugs. the air filter is only about 3 months old and about 1000 miles.

i was going to put a new muffler on, run injector cleaner, clean the maf, put on new cap rotor and wires, and replace the fuel filter in the next month.

It would be worth your while to check your coolant and oil, possibly do a full oil change. If it sounds anything like its under water, it may very well be, as much as that seems bizarre. The 2.9 engine has a VERY common problem with the heads cracking and coolant leaking into the oiling systems, or the pistons themselves. If the coolant gets into the combustion chambers you will get a very hollow sounding detonation and slamming the gas pedal to the floor will only make it louder but it still sounds hollow, with little extra acceleration. At higher revs the engine can sometimes overpower as more air and fuel are put into the chambers. If the coolant gets into your oiling system your oil cap and filler tube will start to build up a thick, chunky white/yellow "milkshake" coating, or similiar look in the oil itself when drained. Its also possible for your coolant to take on oil, it will look about the same. Good luck, and hopefully it is just your ignition. Take a look at the tech library, there's more details there.
