Hi there, been searching for a set of headers to replace the awful logs on my Extended Cab 88' Ranger 2.9L 4x4 '5 Speed and I still haven't had any luck.

Does anyone have a set they would sell? JBA/Pacesetter or any brand would work for me.

@TexasDuck66 ,
If you can't locate good headers for 2.9ls, then look at the HEADERS available for The "98+ spec Ford OHV 4.0l" heads; they have the same bolt spacing and the same size exhaust ports

Think I remember you telling me about it on a old post I made that went dead. Hence why I made a new one. I did test a 97' earlier 4.0 header gasket and they lined up pretty much the same. Why specifically a 98+ 4.0?

I was going to mention using a 4.0 OHV header. I read somewhere on this site about them being the same bolt pattern and hole size. Maybe @PlumCrazy
or old posts by

What's the budget? What are you looking to spend on a set of JBA headers? Borla?

Not really sure honestly, depends on the condition and how much the person is asking.

The Borla headers are in great shape. The crossover pipe can be shortened to fit the 2.9. I have 2 sets of JBA headers for the 2.9 in storage, not near me currently. I think I still have the set of Hedmann headers I had on my 4.0 Aerostar van.

Oh wow! I probably won't need the crossover pipe. I had the intention of doing true duals with an X Pipe. How much would you want for the Borla or the JBA?

You'd want the JBA headers for a true dual exhaust. The ones I had on my 2.9, the ball sockets at the collector kept loosening up and leaking so I had someone weld them to cure the problem. The silver coating looks decent. The other JBA set has surface rust from being outside for 15 years. $350 for the JBA but I can't ship immediately or $500 for the Borla that can go out tomorrow.

@TexasDuck66 ,

For the 2.9l, use headers made for the 1998+ spec OHV 4.0l heads; the heads and exhaust manifolds/headers built for 1991-1997 OHV 4.0l use oversized exhaust ports which will affect your performance negatively. The exhaust ports in the 98+ spec Heads are nearly the same size as stock 2.9l exhaust ports and yes they still have the same bolt/port spacing.

Hey you seem knowledgeable on headers. Why can't I find any headers for my 93 4.0? I see lots of headers on eBay for the later model OHV engine. They're going for a really good price. And I only ever seen one set of used headers, they were borlas and they were selling for close to $600
