I have found a good deal on 302 efi, e4od and transfer case. Its been pulled and ready for me to pick up. Thinking a head to the wiring I am well ....scared shitless it will be more complicated than I can handle. Here's my idea. Once its all mounted up in my '90 b2 I get a ecm from a f150 with a manual tranny to run the engine. Now the second and bigger ?????? If I get a "stand alone computer to run the tranny what will I need to hook into it other then the connectors in the tranny. I think there is 1 from the TPS and I think 1 for the speed sensor. Any help would be awesome guys. Or a build thread link. Thanks in advance!!!

Also has anybody tried this tranny controller?

Ok but as I said if I go this route I won't have the factory wiring at all and will have to track it down and pay for it. Just looking for options and advice from anybody that's tried it. From looking at the install instruction on the Baumann TCS controller my above idea could work.... I think?

tcs will work fine. baumann is top shelf ime.

theres many many f and e series vehicles in the salvage yards where you can easily obtain the pcm and eec/tranny control harness for less then 100 bux, many times for me under 50 bux to get it all.

My research has told me that these controllers will greatly improve tranny function and life because they allow quicker and firmer shifts. What's your thought on that?

hmm....all that unit shown in the first post does is modify the factory signals, seems you may not understand that... i am saying run a shift kit and oem controls....easy and cheap.

for just a seperate tranny controller it will be at least 500 bux.

so your saying this is in addition to the oem controller correct?

My idea was to get the pulled 302 efi and e40d.... no wiring with it. Then using a ecm from a manual shift f150 to control the motor and a stand alone tranny controller for the e4od. I am still looking as we speak and i am looking at the Baumann TCS controller install instructions and I think even it relies on the stock PCM. Can you confirm or deny that?

oh....

yes and no.....no it dont need the oem computer from anything, just add some sensor inputs like it has listed say if you had a carb or a diesel, cracking into the oem harness just makes getting the inputs easier.

you just need throttle position sensor and temp as minimums.

its much easier just to get the harness. not hard at all to make it all work.

what year harness and setup do you need?

Yeah the stock is probably the simpler way to go. I am not sure what year the donor was. i will probably keep it in the back of the truck for ID and wire matching purposes. I am just trying to get all my ducks in row and anticipating problems before they arise. Thanks for the info.

oh...one other thing, the big transmissions like the e40d and the gm 4l80 require at least a 2 in body lift in the applications i have installed them on. if your sas and can make a seperat custom drop k member you can lower the powertrain to deal with it though.

From the info I've found the e4od is only 3" longer than the a4ld junk I pulled.

overall?

dont remember the stock a4ld setup length...used to know it but stock shit i just dont like to deal with on these.

if its just the trans, add that 3" to the 3"-7"' longer the f/s t case is, and it becomes a potential issue.

a f/s fixed yoke 208 on an aod puts you close. dont remember if its shorter or longer though:icon_confused: 26 3/4 and 17 1/4 iirc.

which is @ 44 in. my current setup is just a tad over 48 in. thats 4l80 with oem 4x4 adapter- 1 1/4" spacer adapter to a fixed yoke ford 208 t case

the aod looks tiny next to an e4od.

dont remember the length of the e40d off hand but i have one i can measure i just rebuilt.

iirc, the aod 208 is actually a smidge shorter then an a4ld/1350 but i would have to measure a a4ld setup again to be sure....

i guess its only a serious issue if you ever wanted a doubler.

Did you ever get the E4od swapped in? I just finished my swap of 351w and E4OD couple months ago. I am also running the US Shift Quick 4. Was wondering how the system has held up if you did finish?
