Which one for an 88 4X4 ranger? I can prly get the 351 for cheaper and also get the t-case and a 5spd for it. A buddy of mine just told me about a 460 he's got layin around and got me thinkin...

What are you planning on doing with the Ranger? Racing on the 'strip, wheeling it or what? I wouldn't want to have to feed that beast of a bigblock, honestly, not for a DD, anyways, plus, the nose weight is going to be WAY off going through a curve or corner. The 351 weighs in at about 525 lbs and the 460 is just over 700lbs... something to consider, along with the WILL BE NEEDED axle upgrades for either engine, esp. the BB.

Only problem is is that I have no idea what t-case or tranny to use. The 351, t-case and tranny are comin out of a bronco. Also, the 460 has been sittin for 6 years and the 351 hasnt even been out for a year

If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
351 from a FS Bronco with a 5spd?

FWIW I just got back from AZ driving the 460 powered class C motorhome and I averaged 10 mpg @ 55 mph From OKC to Berrien Springs MI with a stock 460 and an E4OD..... I don't know the gearing.

I caught a good tail wind from Moriarty NM that blew me to OKC where I was 13 mpg @ 75 mph (normally at 75 it gets 8.2.......... that was one hell of a tail wind).

I bet you might see 15 mpg with a 460 in a Ranger if you could get it to fit and still be able to daily drive it...... but you would need to go through it and replace all the gaskets. you would use a ZF 5spd or an E4OD automatic...... or a C6 auto..... and any T-case from a FS Ford.

Im lookin for a 5spd. Would the t-case and tranny from the 351 setup work for the 460? I know the t-case is an NP205 but I don't know about the tranny

there is no way the 5spd out of a F/S bronco is going to back a 460, since the Bronco never had a ZF. Are you sure its not a 4spd?
