The 4.0 manual transmission radiator is a single core but the automatic is a 2 core. I just replaced my radiator in my 4.0 manual with a 2 core from an automatic and it runs much much cooler. When I swapped to the 2 core, just leave the plugs in for the automatic transmission cooler, and you'll need both upper and lower hoses for automatic. Also a new fan shroud will be in order, I'm still running the fan shroud from the single core but I have about 1/8 inch of clearance between the shroud and the ac clutch, it even hits when the engine moves on acceleration but nothing major. Also the mounting clips on the bottom of the shroud are different between the two, wider on the 2 core.

Someone else will have to chime in on whether or not it will actually fit. I'mpretty sure the water becks are completely different between the two, do you have air conditioning?

The 4.0 automatic radiator upper hose connection points out towards the fender so you'll have to get crafty, maybe you can try a universal rad hose, like you see on hot rods and older custom cars

A set of 2.9 auto trans hoses fit just fine, ran them for years back in my 2.9 days, no universal hoses necessary

Not always. I have a single core, auto trans, 4.0 rad. The trans cooler sticks out farther than the rest.

It's a rare one to see though because all 4.0s with AC got the dual core rad, and AC and auto trans are options that were common to see together.
