Not for long, and it introduces several other complications as well (it's shorter, among other things).

I was wondering this, because I heard someone say that it could hold 4.0 power and I thought no.... It cant its not an M50D. I wish the tk5 would hold up to a 4.0 because the tk5 has a creepy low 1st gear. Didn't the 2.9 M5OD have a deeper 1st gear than the 4.0 M5OD?

Yeah, and after running that lower 2.9 ratio on a strong 4.0OHV and snapping the output shaft like the neck of a chicken...

The thing to remember about the 4.0 is it makes as much torque as a 2.9
right off of idle and more torque before than 1100rpm than a 2.9 CAN make

So you really don't need transmission gears quite as much.
