Because a 4.0 cannot run with a 2.9 computer and harness. If it could, then swapping them wouldn't be required. Makes sense don't it?

You could give it a shot, but your 2.9 computer will be wondering where the hell it's ditributor went, and what the hell this MAF sensor thing is. :icon_twisted:

You can believe them if you want to.... but changing the harness isnt really that bad, just take good notes and mark everything you can.

I think it's been stated that the oil pump drives differ, and that the intake manifold would get into the way. Best bet is to swap computer and mainharness, that way the engine management matches the engine that's in your truck.

Pete
that sucks, i would still rather find out for sure. mabe someone why has tried it can chime in here.

If someone has it was probably a PITA to wire up and really doesn't justify just geting the harness and computer out of a gen 2. Why do you wanna use the 2.9L harness soooooo bad?

But it would be just as easy to go to a junkyard to get a harness and a computer and save you alot of pain.

Besides the fact that the end connectors on the 4.0 harness aren't the same as on the 2.9 so you'd have to change all of them too just to plug in stuff like, I don't know, EVERY sensor on the motor.
