hey guys, my question is, are you "not" suppose to downshift the ford 4cyl. manual trannies? i ask because the guy i bought my truck from says he replaced the tranns 3 times. under 200,000 miles. thats why he sold it to me, because #3 went out and he said he was done and now i've put a new one in it along with new clutch,s.cyl, etc.and a man i work with said his ranger owners manual says not to downshift. i dont have the manual so thats why i'm asking.... thanks oh yeah, the truck is a 1994 ranger 2.3 liter 4x2 5-speed

my sun visor illustrates downshifting into 1, 2, or 3 on steep grades.

those transmissions probably went out cause the guy abused them or didn't know how to drive

Yeah thats BS, He probably ground gears trying to shift into too low of a gear and what not. There is no reason a transmission shouldn't be able to handle that.
