5R55e vs Manual Transmission? I heard a lot of bad things about the manual transmissions, but i prefer need opinions. Liability is the number one factor.

For straight up reliability and feel of "power", get a 5spd.

The only thing wrong with the 5spd is the shift rail plugs when they are leaking. Seal them up and be worry free.

I have a 3.0, would never want to drive it with an auto.... manual all the way!. and if you mean reliability also go with the 5spd!

i just owned my first ranger with an auto (a4ld) and am selling it, never buying an automatic equip ranger ever again. Nothing but problems. I've owned two rangers with a 5sp first a 3.0 now a 2.3, never had a single problem with the trans, besides one slave cylinder in about a total of 200,000 combined miles.

i am comparing the 5r55e vs manual equipped. The edge version is equipped with the 4.0 transmission, 5r55e. The window sticker reads "D" which corresponds to this transmission.

Also, my transmission specialist did my transmission flush and informed me it is indeed a 5r55e, not the 5r44e

+1 on the 5 speed. I may be wrong, but I think the M5OD that would come with it is the strongest tranny that was put in the Ranger

With the 3.0L, the M5OD all the way. Just so you can keep the revs up and keep the engine running where it should.
