89 ranger won't start

alright im going to look at an 89 ranger 4x4 2.9 auto heres what happened the battery died on it and now that its charged again it won't start? he says when he hooks the battery up and tries it blows alternator fuses pwr 1 and pwr2 any idead other than my guess of a bad alternator? I need answers asap so I can fix it to drive it home, thank you

Possibly the battery is being connected backwards.
