how hard /expensive is it to replace the ignition switch on a 92 ranger. i have a great deal on one but the key for it was lost. is it easier to have it rekeyed by a locksmith or just take it apart and replace the tumbler?????

Take the lock from the passenger side door to a locksmith. It should have the information he needs to make you a new ignition key. We did one last year and it cost about twenty bucks.

The Lock cylinder is NOT the ignition switch.

It's just the lock cylinder.

the cylinder can be removed from the column OR you can replace the column
with one that you HAVE a key for...

Go to a Ford dealer with either the title or regristration for the truck. They need proof of ownership and the VIN. A title or regristration has both of those. My sister did this for her Saturn. She got 3 new keys for $10.

if its like 88 and later bronco 2's all u need is a screw driver and a drill with the right bit and u can drill out the lock out and the ignition switch just slides out....then u can start it with said screw driver :D

no need for key...but i think 92's have newer interior so i dunno?

If you have AAA, you can call them and they will send out a locksmith to make a key for you. I've done that before. Even if you have a friend with AAA, they could probably call and say that the key got lost.

Then go make another copy or two of the key before it gets lost again, lol
