sounds like the exact reason they call them exploders. idk personally i have never liked them. my mom has owned a couple and driving them compared to my ranger is 2 different worlds. hers have always ran like hogs.

Check your O2 sensor readings and clean your MAF. Change your fuel filter, then check your pressures while running.

I had a 92 Explorer once upon a time. It never sucked the fuel like that, but it DID however lack in the power department. It wouldn't rev past 2100. After a short time period of utter confusion, I was thinking "It's probably going to be something stupid simple." :icon_idea:
Take up the slack in the throttle cable! Maybe not the same problem, but check that anyway. Could solve one of your problems...

My credo
WHY DO I KEEP BUYING DODGES?!?!?
how bad is "guzzles gas"? my co-worker has a 4.0 (ohv) w/ AWD and he gets about 22mpg on the highway and averages about 18mpg overall, but his is a 2000 with 208,000 miles on it. however, he can still chirp the tires before the AWD kicks in, so he has power and decent economy. I dunno if he's lucky or subpar, btu thats my only reference with a 4.0.... me and my friend with rangers have 3.0's.....

I'd still be looking at O2s and Fuel stats. It's probably something simple. If the O2 is giving bad readings it'll dump fuel and too much fuel will make it dog it. Puts out the flame. The MAF may still be your problem as well. It could just be plain old broke instead of dirty.

Not usually. Check your 4x4 control module. It is located in the back left portion under the plastic. Take the cover off to expose your window washer fluid and such, and when you look in there, you should be able to see your module. This could be bad, or the wiring into the harness corroded. I'll see if I could find a picture somewhere, or if someone has one...
