Having some issues with a 94 Pontiac Grand Prix. Approx 140k on the clock. 3.1 v 6 4 dr.
It quite running as it was going down the road, in the final minutes prior to this no run situation.
The 1st thing that was noticed was the turn signals would not work,{ strange considering we just had the turn signal switch and wand replaced about a year ago , with new}.
Next there was various dash lights going on and off intermittently, for example, check engine light, speed-o jumping up and down to name a couple.
Wouldn’t restart, just acted like a dead battery, serpentine belt is in tact and battery shows 12.5v present at the post with the cables removed. {Oh yes new battery about a year ago as well, Interstate}
Now, if we try jumping it, it restarts like a dream, runs fine until one removes the jumper cables then it slowly dies again with in a minute or 2.
The first consideration was that the ECM was doing a death dance. AND this still maybe…but if that was the case why would it start and run well with jumper cables attached??
Got the alternator off and in the process of getting it checked…but if it was the alternator why would it still have 12+ volt in the battery???
Is there a ground wire somewhere that should be checked?? Or a connection??
thanks in advanced
