i am about to start my 5.0 swap in my 99 and have some ? what would be the best trany transfer case combos that do not need adapters? i would use the stock stuff from the expo parts car but its all wheel drive and the tow company that recoverd it towed it on a wrecker with two wheels still on the ground.

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
best combo will be a 6.0 gm powertrain.

He needs to join a GM forum, he's just messing with you.

I would seek out some F150 trans/transfercase parts.

i am not messing with him. i certainly dont need to join a gm forum....

its a V-8 Conversion Forum.

will that stuff bolt up or are you talking the motor and all. because im set on a 5.0 because i already have that

if you already have the 5.0 and are set on it, then i would suggest to run a mild aod build and 208 t case to 250 hp if an automatic is what you want.

a m5od and the same for a manual setup. the late 03 150 4.2 v6 setup is not a bad way to go if you can find one with a manual shift t case. one option i always use when i can is a jeep 208 case with the ford input shaft and speedo setup.

in your situation a later borg manual shift 4406 with whatever ford trans you want is likely the easiest way to go. finding good 208 t cases is about impossible depending on where one lives.

the 4.8/5.3/6.0 setup complete has better power, no mpg penalty, and the t case and trans setup fits much better then the easiest to get ford 302 fullsize setups, and is cheaper to do for current emissions needs if so necessary..

i would not think twice of a modern hemi or 6.0 gm setup for a ranger if the costs are inline.

up to you:dunno:

one thing i never asked was your intent of use and what type of 5.0 you planned to run.

your vehicle has essentially bolt in potential using explorer components and the 4406 t case for true 4x4 ability.

not sure if you had that figured out by searching...

your in good shape then, the 4r70w is the best sb trans ford put out.

if your using that, maybe consider to contact http://www.becontrols.com/ for some upgrades.

a 4406 manual t case will be a good bolt in, its just getting good flanging for cost effective drive shaft stuff that is the assbiter with those for small shops.

A ford NP 205 is a popular Tcase, and will fit between the ranger framerails better than the 4406, the 1356, or the 1345 (all f-series cases), another choice would be the Ford Dana 20 found in early broncos. The 20's are a little harder to find, and you will need a spud shaft (tcase input shaft) from advance adapters, but this is the lightest all gear case available that is a bolt in option....I've heard of people using the Dana 300 and flipping it for driver side drop use...

you need more then a spud shaft for any 20 i have seen if using a 6 hole trans. but they do sap less power then a 205. finding them cost effectively is not always an easy thing to do as well. if the guy wants to use the auto trans he has in the donor he is stuck with custom $$$ parts...4406 is easy to get in low miles....its current for the most part.

the 205 is a horrible case to use by itself for a dd trail rig, and in itself can cause 2mpg drop, and why i dont mention it.

if you want a doubler...thats a different story. 205 is first on my mind in that light.

its the reason intent of use is so important.
