ac compressor replacement

my 96 ranger with a 2.3liter engine had ac but it got a bad case of the black death. i saw on e bay a compressor,drier,and orifice tube for about 120 bucks what is the low down on these kits and what should i flush out the system with some guy on you tube used brake cleaner then blew it out with compressed air that doesn't sound right whats your opinion? i would like to get it fixed before summer is over.:icon_pepsi:

If you have black death, don't even think about flushing the condenser. It will appear to have worked, and then a clot of 'stuff' will break free and clog the orifice. Back to square one.
If you want it to work, without future problems, replace everything under the hood. You cannot flush the accumulator & hose, and the high side hose has the orifice, which you cannot flush, you cannot flush the compressor, but it's likely toast anyway, and you cannot flush the condenser. What's left? The HPCO switch and the LPCO switch. Clutch too, if yours works.
You will likely get by flushing the evaporator, but catch the effluent in a white cloth to observe what color crud is being pushed out.

And 1000% DO NOT use brake cleaner inside the AC system. Use an actual AC flush solvent for any components you try flushing, and then once the system is back together you need to have it vacuumed out for two hours with the engine running to heat the lines.
