ACTUAL MPG Thread

My B2 with a 4.0, 5 speed 4.56s and 34" LTBS gets about 12-13MPG freeway and around 14MPG mixed. If I would slow the fawk down my freeway MPG would be better but I like to do 70+.

usually 5+ min warmups..and mostly currentley local driving...

this tank included approx 160 miles of freeway at 55 mph cruise driving..

my yj 383 on f/w 1tons 38.5 swampers, 4.88's and a sm465,trans with no od, 205 twin stick'd get about 8-10 no matter what. highway or city. highway i was at about 70mph(any faster u'd shit yourself) and city with 1/4-1/2 throttle take offs. bunch of full throttle take offs fawkn with the ricers i think i got negative mpg's worsr ive ever gotten in it was 3mpg towing a 5ft trailer SOA with 31" duelers loaded with firewood, tools, spare parts, and camping shit. btw u aughta see the ricers faces when u roast the 38.5" boggers with just front wheel drive...priceless

back to the topic, amazes me that my b2 is so shitty on gas considering its a little more aerodynamic and has less than half the engine size

88xlt xcab 2.9 5spd 2wd with no exhaust past the y pipe. was getting 25-28 hwy during summer and closer to 18-20 city. now getting about 16-18 but i cut the cats of at the end of fall so im not sure how much is winter blend fuel and how much is due to that.

I get 15-16 mpg using it as my DD with a 50/50 mix of freeway and city driving. I have gotten as high as 19mpg with 80/20 freeway/city.
I don't think it will get much better than 20.

One other item of significance is I unplug the A/C compressor when it's cold. This usually buys me 20 more miles per tank.

89 single cab 2wd, no power steering, non working a/c but all the parts are there.

2.3l 5spd transmission, 7.5 rear axle 3.45 gear ratio.

195/70/r14 tires

all tuned up and good cooling system with new temp sensor and t-stat. gets 25-30MPG with responsible driving.

My 95 4.0 4wd extended cab 5-spd gets about 18 with 90/10 street/highway during the winter and about 18 during fall all and summer. Possibly I havent kept such good records before but this winter I have had about 15-16mpg mixed and feel upset with it. I had a 4.0 ohv, a 93 to be exact and did not notice a big change between seasons. This truck however has had issues since cold temps started. I have changed the thermostat, coolant and belt within the last month. Also put cardboard in front of the radiator. Missouri has had a very mild climate so far, between 15 and 60 degrees F in the last month and it seems to warm the same either way. At times I have had just barely warm heat in the cab and decentlly warm, doesnt matter the outside temp. Either way it seems to be slow to warm up, and barely reach the middle marker.

hmm. my 4.0 ranger gets 7.6 liters per 100 kms. equals out to something like 29 mpg. i do mainly 50 mph or 80 km/h driving, with a little city. i calculate based on the gas i burned, not my tank size. i thought it was strangely high, plus i have a bad misfire issue so idk.

I've only been keeping records of my gas mileage since early Sept, but I know what the averages are by time of year. These averages are with much more "around town" driving than "highway" driving.
Best MPG: 23 MPG going downhill @ 80mph with A/C on.
Average since early sept (winter mpg): 13.8mpg
Summer Average: 15-17

On long highway stretches during the summer I could get about 20mpg.

That's about 2.01 gallons/62.1 miles. Something is off, how did you arrive at 7.6 liters/100km? I'd believe 25mpg but there's no way (that I know of) that you can make the 4.0 in the Ranger get 30mpg.

i got 467 kms out of a tank, divided by 63 liters to fill what i burned, =7.4 L/100km

i usually get higher distances too. i usually get around 550 on a good summer day. been getting around 400 this winter to a tank.


i think my math may be off, correct me if im wrong.

EDIT: ok math is way off. 467 km is 17.5 MPG. my personal best then would be 24 MPG with 620km to a tank, or 385 miles. my worst? 13.45 mpg with 223 miles to a tank. so i average 18 to 20 with 70/30 city/highway.

Yes. Some people don't like to do though. I believe Ford made it kick on with the defrost to keep the system oiled, etc.

Actually it kicks on with defrost because when you put on defrost normally you trying to remove moisture from the window and the A/C system drys the air before it enters your cab.
