Are auto shift knobs different from 1st Gen rangers and bronco ii??

So I bought this bronco ii a few weeks and it didn't come with a auto shift knob.I sourced 1 already but it won't work. So the shift lever bronco ii has a white button that needs to be pushed down to put into gear and knob I got appears to have a slide on it. I had a 83 ranger yrs ago if I recall right it had a cable thing sticking up above lever where this knob would work.Are knobs different between the 1st Gen rangers and bronco ii's or am I missing a part that goes on top of lever B4 knob I currently have. I believe the white rod in the shift lever should be above the top edge so when you squeeze the release that lever in the handle pushes down the white rod.
Looks like yours is broken off or pushed in.

Does anyone have any pics on what it should look like by any chance? And how do I go about fixing it?

This is what it should look like when it’s all by itself

The white rod will simply pull out. Yours looks to be broken inside the tube. Use some small tool, needle nose pliers, hemostats ( roach clips for the unrefined) to reach in and pull it out. Then go find another unbroken one and put it in.

The rod is simply a floating connection between the handle and lock mechanism.

That's all it is? No spring inside or anything? Didn't think it stuck out so far.thanx for the pics.Now I need to find 1.

The spring is all maintained at the locking mechanism. The plastic rod pushes against it.
I think all the automatic Rangers and Bronco IIs 83 thru 89 had the same shifter. 90 went to a column shifter. Should be easy to find.

Looks like ( I’m half blind ) if I blow up the pictures, it’s the very end 3/4” segment. May be hard to get ahold of it.

A couple trim nails edged in around it to secure it. Then try and drill a small hole in the top to drive a screw into.
Hope he keeps us updated.

[/QUOTe. Definitely can't get it removed with pliers! Can't get a hold it. I was going to drill into it like u suggested. Will keep u updated on how it goes
