After a 10 year absence from the Ranger and off-roading scene, I am happy to be picking this up tomorrow....

1994 super cab 4.0L, 4x4 with a 5spd manual. Not thrilled about the manual trans as I hate going to the park and watching guys trying to wheel a manual transmission rock crawler. Hopefully it won't be too big of an issue to put an auto in it at some point .

Going to build it very close to my 97 before it got tore apart for the 1ton axle swap that is on indefinite hold.

I am sure I'll be over in the tech section asking questions again...lol

Welcome back! That avatar pic seems like such a long time ago. A buddy of mine and I were just talking about how much we miss those weekend wheeling trips.

Welcome back!

Nice score for sure. Indeed those wheelwells are just screaming for something bigger than the little P235/75R15s lol

Not thrilled about the manual trans as I hate going to the park and watching guys trying to wheel a manual transmission rock crawler.
Forget the auto... Get a dual T-case.
Most of the guys I've seen struggle with a manual trans don't have enough gearing. Working just the clutch and the brake, I can maneuver mine an inch at a time over pretty much any boulder w/o having to touch the throttle. Descending down the other side of the boulder typically goes smoother as well (less riding the brake).

welcome back!

I blew through Mt Vernon last Monday going to and from the eclipse viewing in Southern IL. Pretty decent looking score you got there.

Thanks for the warm welcomes. Yeah, JimOaks, I missed all the wheeling trips and now that my daughter is getting older, It was time I got back into it. 4x4Junkie... I would agree with you about that, most rigs just don't have the gearing. It's Soo much easier to drive them with low gears, I am still not sure what direction I am going to take with that part of it, but most everything else will be close to what my 97 was. I am fairly certain I know what my main issue was with breaking stub shafts (it wasn't necessarily the 38's)... Fairly sure it was steering limits causing the ears to bind and contact causing them to stretch and snap... So we will see...

Hope someday soon I can see you guys out on the trails again.

Thanks, the eclipse was pretty cool. Can't wait for the next one. My parents live about 2 miles from the center of the part... Totality is going to last 4 minutes 7.5 seconds at their house ...

And I think I did rather well. Not bad for $300... Runs, drives, 4x4 works. Just needs upgrades...
