blown rear / id tag

the gears in my rear diff are shot , i am looking to buy a salvage rear. what do the numbers and letters on the id. tag mean. can i use any rear from a 98 4x4 w/3.0 v6 ? i replaced the p215 tires on the truck with some 30" off road tires , could this have chewed up my gears? thanks for helping, pat

30" tires wouldnt cause any issues, and axles usually last the life of the truck under normal use. if you had a 7.5" axle, you may want look into an 8.8 replacement.
