I'm working on a 96 4.0, and I'm trying to remove the cam syncro, I have removed the hold down clamp and have tried twisting, pulling, prying, swearing, and pounding on it and I cannot get it out. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could loosen this thing to remove it short of pulling the engine?

Thanks,
Brian

Ok, I got it out used the youyube method, broke the plumbers tape, tried again got it.

Can anyone tell me why the shaft is 1/4" longer on a 2000 4.0 than a 96 4.0?

My credo
I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
Its 9mm, not a 1/4". They also changed from a hall effect switch to a variable reluctor at the same time.

I didn't measure the difference, the 2000 shaft does not fit into a 96 block without sawing the extra 9mm off. The differences in the sensor type where why I tried putting a 2000 syncro into a 96 block.
