Catalytic converter compatibility.

Hello, I’m in the market for some pre cats for the 4.0 sohc motor with a 5 speed tranny, I’ve only found ones for an automatic tranny and some don’t list tranny compatibility. I’m really just wondering if there’s a difference. And what cats would you recommend to me?

There would be no difference between manual or automatic

Go by the year of your Ranger and engine size

And in Calif you can only use CARB approved Cat Converters as replacements, they come with a number/sticker that needs to be put on the rad support next to emissions label

Cool thanks for the info. What’s the deal on the whole California emissions stuff and do I have to have it beings I bought this from Nevada and I was previously registered in Nevada, I shouldn’t have to have CARB cats. Could I go to a muffler shop in Nevada or order cats online and ship them to a friends house in Nevada, then bring them back to my house in California and install them. I think that would work correct?

You would have to check with Calif DMV on that

I think you are only allowed to drive a vehicle in Calif for 6 months without getting smog test and Calif Registration and Plates
But those are Laws that some places in Calif watch for and some places don't

But yes, if its currently Registered in another state then you could take it to that state to have exhaust system work done
And when you register it in Calif it would be "as is", and vehicle will either pass smog test or won't
That's up to them not you
