Everything I have had that was powdercoated has since been spraypainted... not because it is any better but it is a lot easier to strip off and start over when the rust starts up again.

One little nick and the rust goes nuts under it... which kind of defies the point of even coating it with anything.

Chrome is much tougher.

Good grief dont chrome that. If you were driving into the sun that flat plate would blind every driver coming at ya, then youd be the #1 head-on target. Scope the colors at the powdercoaters they have some wild stuff, even black chrome. :icon_thumby:

shiny chrome will mess the design.

Or look into having it Black Oxide coated, should cost the same as chrome or powder but is a surface treatment and not a coating. Meaning that I will be next to impossible for rust to get under it. However it will scratch and rust would form in the scratch, but for what and where it is you shouldn't have an issue.

forgive me in asking, but wouldnt that cause for some overheating issues, blocking airflow through to the radiator and all?

Rocks and sand get my grille guard.

It doesn't, IMO it makes it worse by trapping moisture under it once it is compromised.
