After swapping in my d35 in my 89 ranger, I noticed that the spring retaining nut, cup and the base mount with the bushing were not really tight, the cup under the nut bottoms out on the cup under the spring that covers the bolt.

I remember the bottom part of the spring being tight on the d28 but on the 35 it seems loose.

when the tire is at full droop you can see the little bit of space that allows the spring to move a bit.

Is this normal??

No, it should be tight.

Yup. Perfectly normal.

If it were tight could actually shorten the life of the spring somewhat (tweaking the spring sideways a little at full droop).
