Is that fixable? I just thought it was the nature of the beast and you had to live with it.
Yes from what I've read/heard. Ford put plenty of meat there, grinding out a bit of it for more clearance does no harm. I think there's a tech article about it specifying where and how much to remove, I plan to just go a little at a time.

I hit that crossroad with my 94 a few years ago... I ultimately deemed it unworthy of the repairs due to rust issue.

Your coil buckets looked way better then mine. I really wish I had the room to keep it... the new to me Bronco II would have benefitted with it's 4.0L/M5OD.

I had bought new Moog coils and some 1-2 inch lift Rough Country shocks to put on it but it just never happened. I have them for sale in the classifieds. My plan was to do a washer lift with the heavy duty Moog coils... just never happened. If you could use the parts... I would make you a good deal on them. I even have a set of urethane isolators that go with.

Removed both springs today --- lemme restate that...removed one spring today. I pried the top loose and it kinda fell out cuz it was broken at the last curlicue that wrapped around the seat. The other side wasn't broken so I broke it with cut-off wheel.:p
How in the heck are you supposed to get at that stud with the coil in the way. And of course the studs on mine are pretty corroded. Regardless, with or without the spring in the way, it looks like a deep well 26mm socket. 1-1/8 is too big. 1-1/16 is too small.

Tomorrow I'll be working on the studs and getting the nuts off and everything cleaned up.

It was 1 1/8

You can buy a super deep...I usually just weld two sockets together....or cut and extend with pipe....wire wheel the hell out of those threads....want me to bring you one? My daughter is in Rochester hills...need to pull her x mas lights down..

Torch is handy.

I appreciate the offer, but that would take all the fun out of it.
I used an open end/box wrench to measure and it was a bit loose so I'm gonna get a metric socket to see if I can get a tighter fit. The last thing I want is to have to replace those studs. :(
Happy New Year!

I may have studs...

I have stud extenders somewhere intended for 2 inch spacers.

I use them to run a canted seat so I can use really soft long travel springs.

I think a 27 mm is closer. But a 6pt 1 1/8 is what I use....usually with a HD breaker bar to crack loose..then zip it off with a long extension. 3/4 or 1/2 in drive

My last residence in Michigan was Rochester Hills. Adams and Auburn.

I also agree that heat is friend...

I'll see what I can find in my rounds today - I gotta get outta the house :p
Auto Zone and O'reillys are both open and a block apart - 26 or 27mm or 1-1/8 deep well maybe all three - I like tools.

I have stud extenders somewhere intended for 2 inch spacers.
I will probably do the washer lift so tell me more about the stud extenders -- would I have to remove the existing studs or just add the extenders?

My last residence in Michigan was Rochester Hills. Adams and Auburn.

Adams and Auburn --- familiar with that area and try hard to avoid it - I call it Zombie Land."
Rochester proper is really nice. The whole area It is beautiful - a bit expensive nowadays - and way too many humans for my country ass.

My memory is hazy, but I think I just used a bigass deep socket and heavy duty 1/2" impact gun. I soaked em in PBlaster for a while...didnt need heat.

The extenders just go on top of the stud.

I have actual oem cast spacers somewhere too ...the 150 have them on certain packages.

The stud itself has heat release locktite in the beam. Not that it matters at this vintage in the rust belt.

Shit that rotten .. hard to say. I just break em loose with a breaker bar or a pipe on an end wrench ...then buzz em off with the impact and long extension....as the spring is usually still on.

I should have just brought shit with me and came up there ... So I could just tear all that shit out of there and clean it up so it lives longer and will be easier to work on covered in antisieze.. the poor bastard that aligns it will want to hug kiss and fawk you to death when it comes in and everything moves fluidly at the eccentric.

I am headed back home now.

Well....it looks like I damaged the threads on the zirc fitting on the drag link...this one:
20220102_161640[1].jpg
Haven't looked yet, but will prolly have to replace it unless I can file the threads open enough to get the nut on.

Still in the barn cleaning stuff...dammit. almost made it with no casualties

I have a drawer of zerks, they get smashed, many of the ones that come on stuff are cheapos. Swapping shouldn't be a problem, just mind the super coarse threads.
