Hey guys, I've got a few issues with my A4LD that I posted a while back on the Explorerforum, but I was hoping to get some more opinions.

Background: My A4LD worked great, until it lost 4th (OD) merging onto the freeway, it was making a loud droning sound and wouldnt go into 4th.

Fast forward a month or two, and it started losing engine braking when I let off the gas....HOWEVER, sometimes when I let off, it does have engine braking, but disappears after the one time it does it. 90% of the time when I let off the gas, it drops to idle, as seen in this video:

The next issue, and this one speaks for itself....this noise seems TC related as the sound seems to stall arouns 2k rpms, which is what the stock converter is rated at if I'm correct. This noise is also intermittent, as sometimes its there and other times its silent. Its also quiet in neutral and park:

When you drop it into OD when starting off does it go or do you need to have the selector in 3rd? When I got my truck it would not move in OD but would go in 1 2 or 3. The problem was the overdrive sun gear was broken. If I put it in OD and stepped on the gas it would make a slight noise and not move at all.

You said it makes a noise and sometimes doesn't have the engine braking power at times. Sounds to me like you have a bad torque convertor. Torque convertor's will make noise's like you described. Listen for a slight rattling noise, if that is present then you need a convertor.
