My dad just bought a 1993 Ranger 4.0 auto 4x4 axle code shows 3.27 open gears. 1st What is the towing rating on the set up. I know the 3.27 isnt exactly a towing gear. Most of what he will be towing is a boat that weighs in around 2800 lbs including trailer. 2nd. The power window on the pass side stopped working a few days after he got it. The interior dome light and radio dont work, all the fuses are good I checked and replaced them with new ones just in case. 3rd. The 4x4 seems to work OK as long as you are going forward but when in reverse it seems to kick out when under pressure. It has auto hubs on it so I dont know if this is normal for them (other than the Explorer everything I have has manual hubs). Sorry for so many things at once but my dad is one of those that does good do pull the right dip stick when checking oil. Which means I have another patient when it gets sick.

My credo
"220, 221, whatever it takes."
Max tow rating on those was about 5000 lb with a higher gear. A 2800 lb boat should be okay but the truck won't be a rocket ship.

Same exact truck I have, but you didnt specify auto or manual, or i didnt read it. but Either way, I doubt youll have a problem with that payload as long as your smart about it. But you can get a set of 3.55's outta an explorer that will suit you alot better. The hub problem, your up a creek. Do the manual hub swap or do what i did and find someone who can weld your auto hubs to full lock. THATGUY is who I got mine from and he did a bang up job, but he can give you instructions to pass on to whoever your fabricator is Im sure.

froggy as close as we are if he goes that route I might be able to use the same person you did. It is an auto. I doubt he will ever really use the 4x4 anyway, unless he pulls off in my yard. You know how wet its been around here.
