Thinking of picking up a Crown Vic for a reliable car for myself. I'm looking at a 2000 p71 that looks like a detectives car. It has 124k miles on it. Seems to be in good shape. What do you think?

I'm going to use this car to tow my dirt bikes and trailer (5'x10' flat bed) and maybe some camping gear. My fullsize Bronco isn't cutting it in the fuel mileage department and I want something newer with already working stuff.

Good or bad car? I'm not trying to impersonate a police officer. Just like the cars lol

They are great cars. The 4.6 coupled with the 4R70W is a killer combo too. They also have an 8.8 rear end, and 4 wheel disc. I'd rock it for sure. It's a great riding vehicle.

I do love a Crown Vic. Trans comes out in 2 hours or less, nice riding cars, good power, available grille guard. I'd be wary of one that was actually used as a police car. I'm not saying I'd stay away, because the interceptors got some cool stuff, I'm just saying I'd look it over really well since they usually got beat.

We had a guy here a few years ago almost traded an 88 CV Country Squire in. If he had I'd have jumped on that thing in a heart beat. They were the run of the mill wagons, but they had the 5.8 as an option (I think this one was a 5.0) and back in the cargo area the floor was dropped a bit and they had jump seats like a Ranger.

Personally, I'd look for one with the improved front suspension/steering they started using in 03.

Never seen one that color blue before, I LIKE IT!
Iowa DOT used a color similar to that. The guys that mainly harass trucks.

I had a 2000 P71 and sold it 3 years ago with 148,000. Still ran good but had too many cars. It was Sheriff car until I bought it with 124,000. They are serviced regularly, not like a lot of family cars.

While police vehicles receive better than average maintenance, keep in mind they aren't shut off very often. They spend hours parked idling. It doesn't add wear to the drive train, but does add "miles" to the engine.

They do idle a lot but the engines wear the most on warm up.

Ford says that idling for 1 hour is about the same as driving 30 miles as far as engine wear goes.

I've heard that newer CV's have an hour meter built in. I haven't even looked at one yet. I'm basically waiting for my car to sell then I'll start looking.

I still like these cars and I'm excited to test drive one :icon_thumby:
