Just wondering if a 4:10 factory ratio exists for the front dana 35? Any comments or opinions based on my profile and 31s/33s/35 in tire scenarios?

31s = 4.10
33s = 4.56
35s = 4.88

Factory 4.10 D35 pigs are not real common, but as Hahns said, they are out there.

Ok so if I don't run across these 4.10s I should probably do more gear. Guess I'll have to see how 3.73s and 31s feel to see if I can live with them, to start with. Thanks guys

31s w/3.73 should be quite acceptable. 4.10 would just give you a little more oomph without much (if any) MPG penalty.

Yes, they do and HahnsB2 correctly describes where they can be found.

I've found several over the years.

Sold them too, and I've got one in my truck now.

Come warmer weather I'm going to pull it to regear to 3.73's

Junkie, looks as if hes running a V8/Auto, so he may not need that much gear, probably a good way to break stuff... Probably be good with 3.73's/4.10's with 33's... plenty of torque for that...

I'd agree with that if he had a 351 (or was not using an OD trans), but he has a 302 (shorter stroke than a 4.0L).

Well Ill say this, Im running 3.73's with my SOHC with my 34's, and aside from some minor issues like crawling up and over objects where I have to use some clutch, I dont have a problem whatsoever, so I know if I was running an auto, Id be just fine... And 302's arent as bad on the low end as you think, I dont know if you've ever driven a stock V8 explorer, but those are far more torquey than a 4.0 OHV or SOHC... provided you have the right year (heads/cam/etc) a 302 has plenty of torque. I think 4.10's and 33's would be a great setup for a V8/auto/4x4... Just my opinion based on my personal setup (which isnt ideal by any means)

High Pinion?

Are the gears mentioned for the high pinion? I have an '84 BII with an 8.8 in the rear and a TTB Dana 35 in the front. I need the 4.10 gears to match the 35 to the 8.8. I'm a college student so I need one on the cheap so I want to find some used. Can anybody give me specifics?

Yeah they are talking about the TTB which are all high pinion. So the details listed are for what you need.

But if you do 32.5's or larger tire size; do 4.56. Even with my 4.0 I'm GLAD I went to 4.56 gears for 285/75r16's.

I actually enjoyed 4.88's with 285/75's and a 4.0L SOHC. Plenty of grunt for sure.

Just FYI police package 1st gen explorers were equipped with 4.10's OE with the 4.0L OHV. We had one at the local upullit not to long ago.

Watch for hybrid 35/28s. They are common in the 4.10 flavor, they bolt up, but have tiny 28 size inner shafts.

I pulled my old TTB 4.10 35 pig out of 92ish 2.9 auto Ranger. Payed 40 bucks for it at U-Wrench-it. Sold it a year later when I went SAS for 300 bucks.lol

I am quite happy with 4.10s and 35s personally, but I have the doubler and hybrid trans to fall back on when I need to go slow.

On the street I am doing 65 @ 2100 rpm which is nice on the long trips to go wheeling. I can pull 16-18 mpg highway. For a 4600 lb truck on 35s that isn't bad IMO.

Not to mention 4.10 8.8 gears are a common factory ratio which means they are cheap if you destroy a set.
