I have never repeat NEVER seen a 4.0 RANGER with 3.27 gears.
and I know I wouldn't want one...
Lots and lots of 1991-92 Explorers..
And I really doubt that they are the best gears for fuel economy...
I've gotten 21 and change several times by being very consistant
about stretching the fuel on my truck which is a 4.0 4x4 running 4.10's
For the record, It is my considered opinion that a 2wd Ranger with 3.55's or a 4x4 with 3.73's approaches the ideal.
I have 4.10's in mine because I'm too lazy to change them, they are a leftover from my truck having a 2.9 before I switched to a 4.0
one complaint I've heard from others that switched to an earlier ranger with a smaller engine is that the 4.0 isn't a ball of fire... but this is largely because the 4.0 is better down low, where owners of the other engines have no experience with.
The 4.0 is a puller, not a revver.
in addition it is an absolute pig on fuel if you cruise at or above 2400rpm (where a 2.9 is happy to run all day long, but a 2.9 is happiest on a long highway run at 2900-3100rpm
(I have crossed entire states at 3000rpm)
