I am converting a 97 2wd ranger from a 2.3 manual 7.5in to a 5.0 T-5 manual 8.8in 3.73. My question is would it be better to have a custom made drive shaft or to have an explorer shaft shortened?

Get a new one made. Bring the T-5 yoke to a driveline shop, a length measurement, and they should have you setup in no time. I got a new 68", 3 1/2" dia shaft with spicer joints, balanced and all for $185 for my supercab.

Not a bad investment.
