Ok I read somewhere here I can find a one piece aluminum driveshaft off of a 2wd ranger....I called the scrapyard and they said that all the 2wd rangers from 95-97 are two piece steel driveshafts!!! Where can I find a bolt on aluminum drive shaft for my ranger??? 1994 4.0 Ext Cab 4X4 ranger....? Do I have to get one off of a newer ranger or?? I dont wanna have to get one made. Thanks guys

First of all, you don't want aluminum, go with the steel. I had aluminum, and it lasted about 3 weeks....98+ will have the one piece shafts, I believe 01+ will be steel. Also, all sport tracs are also the same length, though harder to find in the yards...if you have a 2WD, you need a 2WD donor, if you have a 4WD, you need a 4WD donor, the 2 are not interchangeable...

Not trying to argue with you but in the Tech Library this is exactly what it says quote: "Instead of going through all that trouble of guessing and checking and maybe getting it right, just ditch the two-piece shaft completely. 1998 and newer 4x4 Extended Cab Rangers have a nice one-piece shaft that is a 90% bolt-in swap and will keep you free from vibrations when you're riding high."

It's 90% bolt in, cause you have to change the flange on the driveshaft at the tcase/trans end (unless you have 2WD)...98-00 X-cab shafts are aluminum, whereas the 01+ are steel, but all 98+ and all GEN 1 sport trac shafts are the same length as 93-97 x-cab rangers. I've ran both, an aluminum from 98 and the steel from the sport trac, they are the same length

Alright so I found one at the scrapyard from a 2001 2wd ranger, its aluminum. Are you saying I have to make modifications or is it bolt right in? They want $125 for it.

2wd's are a direct swap, since you have the newer 8.8 axle, you have the larger flange

Just let me reiterate, YOUR truck is a 4x4. You need to get a shaft FROM A 4x4. A 2wd shaft WILL NOT FIT.

And '98-'00 4x4 shafts are steel unless the driveline thump TSB was done, then they would be aluminum. All '01up S/C shafts are aluminum, period.

My head hurts.

And 01-05 sport trac shafts were all steel as well.
