1993 Ranger. Today I took part the transfer case shift motor and cleaned it up, and managed to get it to work, kind of. The first time I hit the button after wards, the 4x4 light came on the dash along with the red light beside the button. Then the 2nd time I hit it neither would come on. But I had all 4 wheels off the ground and they were spinning. I can hear the motor turning, its clicking. I havent tried 4lo yet.

The 4x4 has never been used on this truck. Could the light issue be because the lights have never been on, and the sudden electrical current through it burn the bulbs?

I don't think sudden electrical current though the bulbs would burn them out
