If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
I don't remember us ever having problems with Escape transmissions during those years but I'd hesitate to buy a used transmission that old unless you know it's history. We always used Ford remans when we needed to replace a transmission. Whichever way you go, remember to flush the cooler lines.

Yeah, my brother got a '11 I believe and has done some looking into them, apparently they're a bear to remove...

Depending on what it's doing I would just drain the 4 quarts you can externally and refill, that fixed his odd shift problem... if it's slippin that's a whole different thing... apparently they do hold first for a long time when they're cold...

The wifes always did. She had an 10. It shifted rough and oddly when cold from when we bought it ae 48k clear up to 170k when we offed it. Never had any issue though.

Her 18 fusion does the same thing just not as pronounced. I believe its the same trans.
