This. I have one and he speaks the truth. That damn grease is nasty.if you wheel in the cold you may want to disassemble the planetary gearset remove the "grease" they use which is like wax and repack it with synthetic grease. Did that to mine as soon as it got cold and was a huge improvement.
the grease they use is crazy. couldnt even wipe it out with a rag. took awhile to get it clean in a partswasher. the solvent seemed to have no affect on it initially. just worked at it and got them clean repaced it using as much synthetic as i could get to pack in there. worked flawlessley and smooth now.
if I had to do it over again i would buy the xrc but if the money was available i would go with synthetic line tho.
Also, the solenoids are notoriously crappy and will leave you stranded. Happened to me twice. Smittybilt replaced one of them for free (yay) but I was fed up on the last one and replaced it with a HD Albright solenoid. And synthetic line. I'm good now for a while. Other than that it is a strong winch.
