Extremely sloppy shifter.

Just picked up a 94 Ranger 4x4... It's a 4.0L 5 speed manual and the shifter is crazy sloppy. When in first or second gear the shifter will move about 2-3 inches in any direction. Shifting from 2nd to 3rd is an adventure. Usually involves leaning over into the passenger seat to get the top of the shifter almost to the glovebox ...lol....

Will a new bushing and pin kit fix it.... Such as AutoZone part number 917-551? Or do I need the new shaft as well or some other part?

Thanks, That is what I assumed, but its WAY worse than any of the youtube videos showing the install of that kit...

For less than $20, and seems like a rather simple job.

I have three shortbeds, and one edge.
Two have sloppy shifters, so for my favorite, ordered a Hurst, and for the other, will just get a repair kit.
Neither installed, but should be interesting to compare a high dollar piece, with a cheapo repair.

That bushing kit with the pins should do it, I had one of the pins break on me once in my Ranger, it was VERY interesting to shift... I don't think it was that cheap and available then... I ended up with junkyard parts...

That same kit is what I put in my junkyard M5OD. Shifter is awesome and tight. The only thing I would like to do is replace the neutral springs so it feels the same left and right but that's a bit more effort. That kit is easy to do and works just fine.
