So my 2000 Ranger's AC has had issues for a while now. Around Christmas it was making a noise in the cabin like there was an obstruction, but I never seemed to have time to check it and just let it go. The noise went away, but then it stopped cooling like it had been. I let it go for awhile because it hasn't been too hot yet but not I can't even get the compressor to kick in. I pushed the schrader valve on the low side pressure port and a burst of air does comes out. I've read you can bypass that switch with a paperclip to force the compressor to come on but some people don't recommend that. I bought the R134a leak finder kit and can of R134a with a gauge on the can but I can't get a good reading until the AC works. I sprayed some R134a in to the low side port with the engine running but the compressor won't kick in. I don't have a manifold gauge set or vacuum pump. So I don't know if I should even continue or take it to a shop. Thanks in advance.

My credo
Fix it till its broke!
If you can't monitor the pressure stahp!!! Seriously either do it right or take it to a shop...you can actually hurt yourself and the truck...

I used a can of ACPro that had a gauge on it. It worked fine, just need another half a can maybe. Thanks for replying though.
