I have an 01 ranger with the 4.0 sohc, and I'm trying to find info about forced induction on these motors, the general consensus is that on 91 octane the stock motor can handle 6ish lbs of turbo boost reliably. The question I want to know is would the motor tolerate more boost if I put it on e85 instead of 91. If it would, how much more boost could I push through it? I'm aware that hypereutectics and boost is labeled a bad idea, but I'm not looking for a ton of boost and I'm planning on putting a more conservative tune in it and an intercooler

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
turbo....i would say maybe possible to go almost a whole atmosphere if you have a good controller...and drive psi is ok. the cammer has higher rpm potential then the ohv.

supercharged. i would put a fork in it at 8... there are people running more in the mustangs.

there was a guy with a remote turbo stang running low 12's he said it was only 9 psi...but. naaaa. but the math worked out to 400's in hp. he had clutch and trans issues.

there are a few guys here running boost with these. pretty sure pj is building one right now.

That's almost double the horsepower with only 9psi? That's huge numbers if that's right but I wonder how long the engine will last
