I drove a 292 mile trip yesterday. It took 14.88gal of fuel (19.6mpg) and 10 quarts of oil. There is no visible smoke from the exhaust except at start or initial acceleration, pipe is black sooted, and the engine is clean and dry of oil spill.
Is it possible that the catalytic converter would burn up the smoke particles? If not, any suggestions as to where the oil is going?

10 quarts? Your running a drain plug right? The cat would make no effect if it is burning oil you'll see/ smell it. Have you checked for oil leaks?

I'd be looking for a rust hole in the oil pan or a blown pan gasket

That oil is going SOMEWHERE.

10qts in <300 miles is a MASSIVE loss of oil

Check yer PVC valve- don't know why it wouldn't smoke but sometimes they don't when the PVC clogs and causes excessive consumption.
