Hello,

I'm rebuilding a 1984 Ford Bronco 2. My original intention was to swap in a 302 V8. I planned on getting the adapter plate from advanced adapters and using the original transmission and transfer case. I rebuilt the BW 1350 and am about to rebuild the TK5, new bearings, synchro's, etc. However, I need some guidance on if the 302 will destroy the drive train. This is my first rebuild so I wanted to keep the rebuild simple. (Why I wanted to keep stock drive train) I don't want to sink time into rebuilding the drive train just for the engine to destroy it. I'm also weary of just keeping the original engine as I've heard not so great things about the 2.8L V6. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The 2.8 is fine if you can keep the feedback carb system working properly or convert it to something simpler. It's just really underpowered by modern standards.

I definitely wouldn't put the TK behind a 302.

Chevy 2.8L, bad engine. Ford 2.8L, not a bad engine, but the Ranger version can use a little help like fastpakr said.

All for the 302 swap and you'll find a lot of foo dhelp and info here. That said, I would not attempt to run the TK behind it. There is a reason they put a better & stronger transmission behind the 2.9L and 4.0L, the 302 is stronger engine than them.

My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
The TK does fine behind a 2.8 or 2.9 but a 302 will destroy it pretty quickly more then likely.

The 2.8 isnt a bad engine at its base....its just the goofy feedback emission garbage that can make it finnicky
