I have a 98 Ford ranger xlt. 4x4 with 31's and automatic trans. I got he truck a year ago and did new plugs, wires, igniton module and fuel system clean.

I recently ram seafoam through the brake booster vaccum and the fuel tank. I had an 1/8 of a tank and used 1/3 of the can in the fuel tank. I ran the tank till the check gage light cam on and filled it with 91 octane fuel. Now this is where the problem starts. After i filled the truck i drove a mile or two. then pulled into my drive way. While idleing into the drive way it cut out on me. Then about and hour later driving to a stop light it did the same thing at idle. Later that night we went to a mud run and it took about a minute of solid cranking to start my truck. Drove an hour to get home and neve had another problem. today i changed the fuel filter and it did it again this time it happened alot more. I started watching it and the RPM's drp to none and the CHECK GAGES light comes on. Any help would be appriciated.

Please i am layed off and need my truck to keep some cash flow coming in. Thank all of you for your help and ideas. God bless.

I also noticed that i drove only 12 miles and it showed that i used 1/4 of a tank. Is anyone thinking on here it may be a fuel pump...

Hi,

So if I'm understanding your post correctly, your truck was running fine prior to doing the seafoam treatment. I don't think fuel pump or fuel filter is the culprit here, nothing wrong with some preventitive maintainence though!

I think it may be one of two things or maybe both, your plugs are probably fouled all to hell after all that carbon was broke loose, and also it could be that with the carbon cut loose maybe partialy clogged the catalytic convertor?

This is all that comes to mind off hand. Good luck fixing your truck!

i thought all of those things too but it is only an intermittent problem...

Maybe you accidently cut or pulled loose a vacuum hose? About all I can think of for the moment. Again, good luck fixing your truck!

I would for sure pull the plugs and look at them. Does the truck seem to be running rich?

check the vacuum line to the fpr.

thoroughly re-check the brake booster hose for leaks or cracks. leaking air there would definately create running and starting problems. also check the plugs for fouling. I use seafoam about 5 times a year, never any problems.

fuel pump failed about ten minutes ago. thanks for all the input though. i was in the process of going to work when it quit. i work at a diesel shop and was going to throw it on the rack at lunch...
