Someone help me please! I have a 1990 ranger that I'm putting together, I finally got it running and was playing around with it the 4x4 selector now it's stuck in 4 low and won't disengage. It's a 5speed manual with the electronic shift transfer case. could it be the transfer case motor or is there somewhere else I should be looking? Yes, I've already tried doing it the way the owners manual says and I get nothing.

The manual says to put the truck in neutral, depress the clutch and hit one or both of the 4x4 selector buttons. I've tried hitting them one at a time and both at the same time, nothing happens.

i would climb under, unplug the solenoid connector, try manually moving it out of 4 low (may need another person pushing clutch and brake, not sure *and makes sure it is not going to roll*). if that works, pull out the motor and clean or replace, check as much of the wiring as you can. if it won't go manually at all, then i think you need to pull the transfer case or work underneath to verify the driveshafts aren't causing pressure on the mechanicals, not allowing it to shift. if that's fine then pull the case and open it up or replace.

Thank you! I will work on that next, the damn thing died tonight and now it won't restart so I get to try and figure that problem out now. My fun little project is quickly turning into a nightmare!
